What actually decides whether it fits?
Not the badge on the boot. Fitment for an oxygen sensor spacer comes down to four physical things, and you can check all four yourself in about five minutes:
- The thread of your downstream oxygen sensor. It has to be M18 × 1.5.
- The space behind the sensor bung. The spacer is 58 mm long, so the sensor ends up 58 mm further out than it is now.
- The wire. The loom has to reach the connector across that extra distance with slack left over.
- The count. One post-cat sensor means one spacer. Two means two.
We do not publish a vehicle fitment list, and that is deliberate. The same model can run different sensors across engine variants, model years and markets, and a list built on assumption is worse than no list. Your own sensor is the authority.
Why is M18 × 1.5 the number that matters?
M18 × 1.5 means an 18 mm metric thread with a 1.5 mm pitch, and it is the near-universal oxygen sensor thread. The large majority of petrol vehicles on South African roads use it for both the upstream and downstream lambda sensors, which is why one spacer size covers so much of the market.
"Near-universal" is not "universal". A minority of applications — some motorcycles, some small-capacity engines — use M12 × 1.25 or M14 × 1.5 sensors. Those bungs are physically smaller and an M18 spacer will not go in. If your sensor is M12 or M14, this is simply the wrong part.
How do you confirm your own sensor thread?
Any one of these gives you a definite answer. The first is the easiest if the car is already on stands.
1. Read the old sensor's part number
Take the downstream sensor out, or read the label on the loom, and search that part number in any parts catalogue. Oxygen sensor listings almost always state the thread — you want the line reading M18 x 1.5. This is the most reliable method, because it describes the part actually on your car rather than what should be.
2. Measure it
With the sensor out, measure the outside diameter of the threaded section with a vernier or a decent ruler. An M18 thread measures a shade under 18 mm across the crests. Roughly 18 mm is M18, roughly 14 mm is M14, roughly 12 mm is M12 — a difference large enough to see without precision tools.
3. Check it with a thread gauge
A thread pitch gauge confirms the 1.5 mm pitch in a second and removes any doubt between 1.5 and 1.25 pitch on a similar diameter. Most workshops have one.
4. Ask a parts counter
If the car is not coming off the ground today, give your registration or VIN to a parts supplier and ask for the downstream oxygen sensor specification. The thread size is part of that spec, and you do not have to buy the sensor to be told what it uses.
Do you have room for 58 mm?
This is the check people skip, and the one that most often ends a fitment. The spacer adds 58 mm of length in whatever direction your sensor points, and the sensor body moves out with it.
Get under the car with a torch and look at the bung. Picture the sensor sliding straight out along its own axis by roughly the length of your index finger, and ask what it would hit. The usual obstacles are a heat shield, a subframe or crossmember rail, the floorpan, or a tunnel the exhaust sits inside with little space around it.
A rough measure is fine — hold a tape measure or a socket extension against the top of the sensor and see whether 58 mm clears. If it comfortably clears, you are fine. If it plainly does not, the part will not work on your vehicle.
Will the sensor wiring reach?
Same distance, different consequence. The loom must span the extra 58 mm without pulling on the connector.
Unclip the sensor loom from the one or two brackets holding it to the underbody and see how much free wire that gives you. On most cars the answer is plenty; on some, particularly where the connector mounts close to the sensor, it is tight. A wire under tension will chafe, break a core or unplug itself on a bad road, so no slack means this is not the part for that car.
One downstream sensor or two?
Count the sensors after the catalytic converter, not the total number of sensors on the car.
An inline four-cylinder engine normally has one catalyst and one post-cat sensor, so one spacer. V6, V8 and flat engines run two banks, each with its own catalyst and post-cat sensor — that is two spacers. The codes say the same thing: P0420 is Bank 1 and P0430 is Bank 2, so both codes stored means two banks to deal with. There is more in the P0430 guide.
If in doubt, count the sensors physically screwed into the exhaust after the cat, or check the sensor layout in your vehicle's service data.

Check before you order
- Confirm your downstream oxygen sensor thread is M18 × 1.5, from the sensor part number, a measurement, a thread gauge or a parts counter.
- Confirm there is 58 mm of clear space behind the sensor bung in the direction the sensor points.
- Confirm the sensor loom has slack to cover that extra distance without tension on the connector.
- Count your post-catalyst sensors — one spacer per downstream sensor.
- Confirm your existing sensor is healthy. A dead or lazy sensor throws its own codes and a spacer will not fix that.
- Confirm the code you are chasing is P0420 or P0430 and that you have ruled out exhaust leaks, misfires and contamination first.
- Decide what is appropriate for how you use the vehicle, given the compliance note below.
When this is not the right part
Straight answers are more useful than a sale here. This part is not for you if:
- Your sensor is M12 or M14. It will not thread in. Nothing to be done about it.
- There is no room behind the bung. Some vehicles are simply packaged too tightly for 58 mm of extra length.
- The wiring cannot reach without being pulled tight.
- Your catalytic converter is absent or badly failed. A spacer changes what the sensor reports; it does not repair or replace a catalytic converter and does not reduce tailpipe emissions. On a full decat there is no guarantee any spacer clears the code. See spacer versus a new cat.
- The underlying fault is something else — a leak, a misfire, a failing sensor.

If your diesel has a downstream lambda sensor with an M18 × 1.5 thread the part will physically screw in, but it will not address diesel-specific aftertreatment codes such as DPF or SCR faults.
Does it fit a car with two downstream sensors?
Yes, but you need two spacers — one per sensor. V6, V8 and some flat and V4 engines run two banks with a catalyst and a post-cat sensor on each. Bank 1 sets P0420 and Bank 2 sets P0430, so if you have codes on both banks you are fitting two.
Does it fit if my sensor is M12 or M14?
No. The spacer is M18 × 1.5 and will not thread into a smaller bung or accept a smaller sensor. A minority of vehicles, including some motorcycles and small-capacity engines, use M12 × 1.25 or M14 × 1.5 sensors. Confirm your thread before ordering rather than after.
Does it fit under a lowered car or one with tight underbody clearance?
Only if there is genuinely 58 mm of clear space in the direction the sensor points. Lie under the car and look at where the sensor tip would end up if it moved out by that distance. If it would hit a heat shield, a subframe rail or the floorpan, the part will not work on that vehicle in that position.
Does it fit if my sensor wire is short?
Check before ordering. Moving the sensor 58 mm further out means the loom must cover that extra distance without tension on the connector. Most vehicles have enough slack once the wire is unclipped from its brackets, but some do not. Never stretch a sensor loom to make it reach.
Does it fit a car with a decat or a high-flow cat already fitted?
The fitment question is the same: M18 × 1.5 thread and 58 mm of clearance. Whether it will clear the resulting code is a separate question, and a fully decatted car with no catalyst at all is the hardest case for any spacer to mask. The mini catalyst element in this design gives it a better chance than a plain hollow spacer, but there is no guarantee on a full decat.
Does the oxygen sensor come with it?
No. The spacer is supplied on its own and you reuse your existing downstream sensor. That also means the spacer has to match your current sensor thread, which is the main thing to verify before ordering.
